A fluorescent glow in the dark cat – it must be Halloween!?!?

Black cats have always been synonymous with Halloween and all things spooky, but now a tabby cat??? This 6-month-old feline may look like a standard issue orange tabby in the comfort of daylight, but he turns a ghoulish shade of fluorescent green under the shroud of darkness!?!?

Despite appearances, the glow in the dark cat is not a practical joke or a Halloween trick, but is actually the result of a genetic experiment to aid endangered species. While cloning a cat, the scientists introduced a gene that would produce fluorescent green proteins to enable them to see if the genes actually made it into the finished, cloned cat. Hopefully this new research will enable scientists to combat animal diseases via gene therapy, and later maybe even the possibility of inserting good genes into humans while talking bad genes out.

For the time being that’s all in the future, back in the present the glow cat can look forward to a normal life — unless he’s exposed to a black light, the secret of his glow is safe!?!?

Why not check out our
website at www.aquaticandpetwarehouse.co.uk where you’ll find lots of trick or treat tasty titbits for your cat in honour of Halloween??!

Halloween has gone to the dogs!?!

Halloween can be a stressful time for pets – especially dogs, and Friday 31st October 2008 is definitely a night to keep your dog at home, safe and sound.

Even the friendliest of dogs may not remain calm when costumed trick or treaters ring on the doorbell. It could be someone your dog is used to and normally likes, but when they are dressed up it may frighten and upset even a usually calm and placid dog.

Chocolate and sweets are another big no no for your dog, and everyone including young children need to understand that they cannot share chocolate Halloween treats with the dog. Chocolate can be toxic to dogs and can cause a range of symptoms including hyperactivity, vomiting, rapid heartbeat, seizures and even death so it’s serious stuff to avoid.

That doesn’t mean that your dog has to be left out of the Halloween fun though, so make sure you have a range of tasty dog friendly treats available for your furry friend to enjoy!!! If nothing else, they will keep him occupied when trick or treaters come to your door, as his mouth will be too full to bark!?!?

We have a great range of dog treats in stock so check out our
website at www.aquaticandpetwarehouse.co.uk and stock up on pet friendly Halloween goodies today!?!

Cats just want to have fun!?!?

Treat balls are most commonly used for dogs, as they help to address behavioural problems and keep most dogs occupied for hours!!! They are also equally loved by cats and can be important in occupying a cat that has become over dependent on humans, or for cats who just want to have fun!!!!

If you leave your cat alone when you go to work, a
treat ball can work wonders as some cats do get lonely and it will also give him a positive association when you leave the house. A treat ball can also be handy for overweight cats as they make a small meal last for ages and encourage exercise without him really realising it!?!

According to animal behaviourists, cats are often lacking in stimulation and so may become inactive and depressed as a result. Offering a
treat ball will enrich the cats environment by providing both a mental and physical challenge, and will appeal to their natural hunting instinct as they get rewarded with treats for pursuing the ball.

Treat balls are great for cat owners too as it will encourage the most world weary cat to play with a level of enthusiasm they haven’t shown since kittenhood, and remember, a cat that’s busy trying to coax food out of a treat ball isn’t going to have time to waste scratching furniture, climbing curtains or over turning your pot plants!?!?

Why not check out our
website at www.aquaticandpetwarehouse.co.uk and try the Cat Treat Ball out for yourself?? Our treat ball is currently on offer at ‘but one – get one free’ so why not hide a couple around the house and keep your cat amused for days at a time!?!

Reptiles are a true labour of love!?!

Owning and caring for a reptile can be both rewarding and educational. There’s no denying they make very interesting pets, but if you want a fulfilling and long lasting experience as a reptile owner, you need to take the time and effort to learn about what's involved before you purchase or accept a reptile.

A reptile in captivity depends on its owner completely. While it may have natural defences, it is still basically helpless and unable to care for itself making every element of care equally important. Reptiles are cold-blooded and so unable to make their own body heat, which is why it is hard for them to move around if the temperature isn't right in their environment.

A successful
terrarium should be set up with a proper heat source for temperature perfection, and installing a thermostat will ensure the correct temperature at all times. Reptiles also need a basking lamp to sunbathe and a light tube for ultraviolet rays.

Remember any reptile will bite or scratch if it feels threatened or frightened so always make sure your tetanus shots are up to date just in case!!! Caring for your reptile should be a rewarding and fun experience for both of you, but it does require long term commitment as many reptiles will outlive cats and dogs.

Here at the
Aquatic and Pet Warehouse we stock an extensive range of reptile accessories. Everything from sunlight lamps to thermometers all designed to keep your reptile friend in tip top condition, and remember we’re only an e-mail or phone call away if you need any advice!!!

The beginners guide to true equine happiness!?!?

With winter just around the corner it’s more important than ever to keep your horse safe and happy to see him through the gloomy months ahead. Obviously there are some essentials that every horse needs in order to survive and be happy such as fresh water, food, shelter, companionship, freedom from pain and exercise. However, contrary to popular belief expensive rugs, a stable with every shaving neatly arranged and the very best of designer tack actually has very little impact on equine happiness!!!!

Always remember that the only reason we have horses is for our pleasure and enjoyment. Looking after them shouldn’t be a chore, so when you are with them give them your full attention and make time to get to know them. Even if you don’t have time to ride you can have fun just being with them, finding out what kind of things they like and what they don’t. Try grooming, giving them a massage or just generally making a fuss of them. By building a relationship with your horse from the ground, you will increase the trust and communication between you when you ride.

Did you know that here at the
Aquatic and Pet Warehouse we stock an extensive range of equestrian products?? Everything from the basic essentials such as tack trays and feed buckets, to a great range of feed supplements designed to keep your horse in tip top condition!!!

Why not take a look at our
website at www.aquaticandpetwarehouse.co.uk and help keep your horse happy and healthy this winter!!!
