With winter just around the corner it’s more important than ever to keep your horse safe and happy to see him through the gloomy months ahead. Obviously there are some essentials that every horse needs in order to survive and be happy such as fresh water, food, shelter, companionship, freedom from pain and exercise. However, contrary to popular belief expensive rugs, a stable with every shaving neatly arranged and the very best of designer tack actually has very little impact on equine happiness!!!!Always remember that the only reason we have horses is for our pleasure and enjoyment. Looking after them shouldn’t be a chore, so when you are with them give them your full attention and make time to get to know them. Even if you don’t have time to ride you can have fun just being with them, finding out what kind of things they like and what they don’t. Try grooming, giving them a massage or just generally making a fuss of them. By building a relationship with your horse from the ground, you will increase the trust and communication between you when you ride.
