A fluorescent glow in the dark cat – it must be Halloween!?!?

Black cats have always been synonymous with Halloween and all things spooky, but now a tabby cat??? This 6-month-old feline may look like a standard issue orange tabby in the comfort of daylight, but he turns a ghoulish shade of fluorescent green under the shroud of darkness!?!?

Despite appearances, the glow in the dark cat is not a practical joke or a Halloween trick, but is actually the result of a genetic experiment to aid endangered species. While cloning a cat, the scientists introduced a gene that would produce fluorescent green proteins to enable them to see if the genes actually made it into the finished, cloned cat. Hopefully this new research will enable scientists to combat animal diseases via gene therapy, and later maybe even the possibility of inserting good genes into humans while talking bad genes out.

For the time being that’s all in the future, back in the present the glow cat can look forward to a normal life — unless he’s exposed to a black light, the secret of his glow is safe!?!?
